I remember the last night before we drove back to Houston for the afterparty when everyone just hung out in the clubhouse til they fell asleep. I remember leaving the clubhouse happy because I knew that every single one of the Beat Riders felt the same way I did. We did not want it to end yet. We didn't want to leave the place where we lived the dream of all dreams for a dancer which is to be taught by the pioneers, train together with positive people with a similar drive, and have no responsibilities accept to the music. MOST people in the world NEVER get the opportunity to truly dream, much less live it out. We were a lucky few who did both over the course of that week.
Reflections.....Thrust into an environment where greatness is not only born, but bred. Shoved into a room with people who you could've had nothing else in common with except your love of music and the dances associated with it. Driven to the edge physically, mentally, and spiritually as we sharpened our minds, destroyed our bodies and bound our spirits clawing our way at times to the goal of just growing closer to the music. Growing closer to the core of the art.
Pain was our constant companion. Injury was an opportunity to progress in another area of our dance. Sleep...only a necessary break in practice.
No job that week to think about. The outside world seemed at first a dream and gradually it became the reality that we did not yet want to wake up to.
So many amazing people all sharing in the experience to reach a single common goal....to improve. And not only were we common in this goal, not only were we dedicated, but we fed on each others energy, we pushed each other, we shared with each other...united we stood day after day, night after night, every day, all day.
People ask me how was it and an excitement washes over me as if I were standing beneath a waterfall with the warmth of the sun bathing my spirit simultaneously. I try to convey in words what can only be expressed in experience, but it is futile in many cases. My challenge to any dancers out there who have any questions as to how it was....apply yourself in your dance for the next year....and apply to the camp. Make it in and then when you get back we can share war stories.
To all the dancers at the camp...each and every one of you have a place in my dancing forever and therefore have a place in my heart. I came to the camp knowing only a few friends...I left with another family.
Bounce: Good luck in New York friend although I have no doubts you don't need it. Keep your dance strong and your heart kind.
Brave Monk: You are an absolute inspiration to me bro. I am proud to know you.
Citrus: Award for BEAT RIDER with the best smile goes to: YOU!!! Also...you ripped it against Havikoro sista!! I have to let you know!
Crykit: If they could bottle musical interpretation you would be a millionare!!! WOW!!!
Defy: You remind me of the martial arts student who is told to do 1,000 punches before they go home....so they do 10,000! Your hunger and drive are beyond admirable...they are an example.
Flo: Dude...you got the glo when it comes to flow on the flo!!! Looking forward to seeing you again in the near future.
Frague: Cool, quiet, and then bam!! You hit the floor with some nastyness!!! Nothing can stop you friend.
Funky Asparagus: You are absolutely AWESOME!!!! Always smiling and always bringing a super positive energy to the room. Keep it funky homie!!!
Isaiah: It's funny that everyone at camp had so many different names for you. I believe it's because you meant so many different things to everyone. I think I'll just call you my sleepy friend! Seriously man...it was an honor to meet you. Take care and God Bless You.
Jergens: 7A reppin!!! Dude...I'll trade you ideas for you cleaning up my waves period...you are gross man!!! I'll get that song to you soon too!
Ivy: Raw dancer. You get in the circle and bring it. I have Mad Respect for you!!!
J Smooth: Well, it's been two years since the last time we hung out...hopefully we don't wait another two, but if we do it will be worth. Thanks for hanging out and dancing with me. As usual, whenever I am around you growth occurs. Take care man.
Jimini: You were born to brighten days!!! No matter what dance you do you bring such sunshine to the floor that people can't help but smile.
Nikodemus: I am absolutely honored to say you are one of the major influences in my dancing. I only hope that I can live up to your expectations. You have my deepest thanks.
Katastrophe: You represented the core of a student. Always willing to learn, always asking questions later, and always utilizing the tools you were given. Good Luck.

Lila: Cool, quiet, and just nice. Hawaii is lucky to have leaders like you out there tearing up the dance floor.
Mario: Sumpthin fo ya mind...you truly are a shining example of getting it done as far as in the circle and outside. I have learned so much from you it's not even funny! The pooping a piece of coal thing was funny though!!!!
Mikey Disco: You need your own television show!!! You really do. But then again...if you were a TV star you probably wouldn't have time to talk with me about life. Thanks man for just listening and opening my eyes. I am lucky to have met you.
N-ER-G: So how did you come up with your name? :p Seriously, I wish more people had your kind of all out attitude when it came to dancing. And to know that behind that gruff bboy top rock was a good man doing his best every single day to be the picture of excellence for the next generation...truth.

Pharside: Man...thanks for being supportive and honest. That is the absolute true measure of a man. You have given me much to think about. Looking forward to gettin down with you in the future homeslice.

Tricky Troublez: Thank you for all the help!!! I took a couple of days to recover and now I am practicing the air tracks again. Because of YOU someday in the near future I will be able to do it. Your dance has impacted my dance, your class and coolness has impacted my behavior...thank you for setting the example.
I think this blog is long enough. I will post something about the faculty and staff on a later date. For now...back to life, back to reality...
